Personal Description:

I have a BA (Hons) Degree in Music (Durham) and an MA in Music (Open University). I also have the Dip. ABRSM Teaching for flute.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been teaching flute to primary school children and private pupils since 2004. I have a 100% pass rate with the ABRSM exams. I have delivered music curriculum to primary schools in the area, and taken whole-class recorder tuition. I have directed a school choir and I continue to direct a church choir. I have taught pupils aged from 7 to 77 - all are welcome!

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that the skills learned through music are invaluable; from listening skills, discipline in practising, performing or working on one's own or as part of a team/ensemble - all feed into other areas of life. I believe that music should be fun, and if a pupil does not wish to undertake exams then I am happy to help that pupil achieve standards in other ways.

I understand that these days there are many demands on our time, so I am happy to take a flexible approach to lessons. Pupils are free to request a frequency of lessons that suits them.

I’m an older lady in my 70s, and have had to give up clarinet playing, so decided to play my daughter’s flute and after 2 lessons, I am going to play in the church band on Sunday. Without Alison’s help, this wouldn’t have been possible. I would recommend her to anyone!
