Personal Description:

I am a two-time graduate of the Royal Academy of Music (BMus + MA) and hold a Master of Music degree from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland's Alexander Gibson Opera School. I have studied with a multitude of highly experienced and renowned singers, teachers and coaches and have worked professionally as an opera singer for several years. Notable work includes contracts with Grange Park Opera, Garsington Opera and Scottish Opera. In addition to adult tuition, Alex has also taught in several schools, teaching children aged from 6 to 18 and is the holder of a valid DBS check.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been teaching privately and in schools for the past 8 years raging from 6 and 7 year old's to adult pupils and am happy to teach from home or travel a reasonable distance. These lessons are generally one to one although I am happy to do joint lessons if the circumstances are suitable. I have had good experiences with teaching online over skype and am very happy to proceed with online lessons if preferred. I also offer musical video analysis for professionals which includes a full analysis of any recording from a technical, musical and performance perspectives.

Tutoring Approach:

My teaching is rooted in technique and I seek to try and develop the basic understanding of what is happening physiologically when we sing. We will work through basic exercises each lesson which will adjust depending on the goals that we are working towards. Although I believe that, in order to sing to a high standard an understanding of technique is important, I am very encouraging of people who are looking to sing recreatively to come and have a lesson and see what happens. Singing is primarily about enjoyment and I will always be happy to tailor any lesson to the wants and needs of the individual.
