Personal Description:

Hey there! My name is Alex and I'm a guitarist of almost 20 years' experience. I have a very wide breadth of guitar experience spanning many different play styles, particularly fingerstyle, blues and heavy metal. Provided it's guitar-based, chances are I'll be down with it! In addition, I have perfect pitch, a 1 in 10,000 talent that allows me to identify notes and chords by ear instantaneously which has always been extremely helpful in both picking up songs and teaching them to others. Tutoring Experience:

After graduating from the University Of Exeter with my degree in Politics I gained experience tutoring as part of my interest in acquiring a PGCE. I tutored Politics A level students in the county area during this time and also school children while I was living in my University city. During my time in employment I've been a part of two of my institutions' Learning and Development teams, onboarding new employees and training them to pick up the knowledge and skills necessary to perform in their new roles.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to teaching guitar is through a syllabus tailored towards a well-rounded, progressive and step-by-step pace to comfortably picking up and mastering the instrument, featuring both a variety of playing styles (both plectrum-based and fingerstyle) and an appreciation of music theory where applicable. Although this is my personal approach to teaching guitar, I am always very happy to teach exactly what the student is most wanting to learn! As a guitarist I have a deep appreciation for adopting the best habits and proper practice techniques from the very start, so much of my teaching style will include a watchful eye on your technique so as to pinpoint exactly how you can improve and to allow yourself the easiest time in getting the level of proficiency that you're aiming for!

As a guitar tutor I write my own digital tabs, both in advance and bespoke, as part of my program. During your time learning the guitar with me I will provide a shared drive where you can access the tabs and documents relevant to our lessons and a binder with any physical print-outs if the lessons are in person. I will also track your progress through an Excel file. My ethos for tuition is very mindful of methodology but equally bears in mind the student's enjoyment of their lessons, their comfort with the pace of learning and executing their goals.

With my tuition the first session is always free as it is first and foremost a consultation of exactly your ambitions regarding where you are currently in your journey and where you'd like to end up. This can be done as a video call, but my lessons themselves I definitely recommend being done in person wherever possible. My lessons take place at my home address in the Broadstone area.
