Information About Alex - Purley teacher
This is how 2 referees rated Alex:
Alex has developed into a thought-provoking and versatile composer. His compositional work during his master’s degree in Music Composition at the University of Surrey was awarded an Ableton Live prize for the unsurpassed compositional work at level 7. He also composed his first album, Evolution, consisting of 5 pieces that embody his musical evolution throughout his degrees and special experiences travelling across Europe.
Beginning his career as an electronic dance music producer and composer, Alex released his club ready pieces through various independent record labels, most notably Simma Black. His music has progressed to more ambient and alternative electronic musical styles, fused with influences from Avant-pop and EDM. This evolution has coincided with Alex’s experimentation in live digital improvisation practices, from playing instruments in unconventional ways to live electronic performances using Ableton Live and controllers. He composes his pieces with the mindset that they have the capacity to be performed and reworked live. His aims are to utilise concepts, visuals and video as the inspiration and direction for his future compositional work.
As well as Alex’s extensive work in composition, he has built vast experience as a DJ, performing at various clubs in London, Guildford and Bristol. He had a monthly residency at Pacha, London, alongside a residency at the University of Surrey’s student union club, The Livingroom as part of the Dance Music Society. Similarly, Alex has DJ’d at birthday parties of all ages, special events and conferences.
Alex took up the piano early on in his development, continuing through to his teenage years. At this time, he discovered music software that allowed him to compose, record, mix and export his compositions. Hours of investigating and studying enabled him to undertake a Music and Sound Production BTEC course at college. After achieving distinction, he was accepted at University to study Creative Music Technology at undergraduate level. Once graduating, Alex spent a year freelancing, honing his compositional skills and building the foundations for his new musical direction. As a result, he then believed he was ready to take his master’s degree in Music Composition, graduating in 2018 with Distinction.
Alex is currently based in South London. He targets to offer his expert knowledge and experiences with young, budding composer’s, producer’s and musician's through private tutoring and informative online articles.

My experience in teaching includes, guest lecturing, presentations and private one to one teaching. Since completing my master's degree, I have performed a number of guest lectures at the University of Surrey, exploring various processes and techniques I have developed for live digital improvisation and composition. I have also given presentations and seminars, exploring the research I have conducted into the basics of generative music systems, my music processes and compositional techniques.
I am fully DBS certified.
I offer tuition covering all aspects of music and production, specialising in Logic Pro X and Ableton Live. I have built many years of experience through my studies at Master degree level and work within the music industry.
