Personal Description:

Currently the Principal Bass Trombonist of the Scottish Ballet Orchestra, I have been living and performing music professionally in Glasgow for 5+ years. I began working with professional orchestras, and performing companies, across the UK and beyond during my studies at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, where I graduated with a Bachelor of Music Performance degree with 1st Class Honors.
With an upbringing in brass bands and big bands, and working experience in symphony orchestras (e.g. the BBC SSO and the RSNO), touring musical shows (e.g. Les Misérables), classical pit ballets and operas (e.g. Scottish Ballet and Scottish Opera), and film/TV/video game soundtrack recordings, I have developed a varied musical skillset and knowledge.

Tutoring Experience:

I have taught one-on-one as a freelancer for 4+ years, and at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland I was provided dedicated teaching modules and workshops. On top of this, I have lead and run several different forms of group classes and workshops to groups of several age ranges and experiences. These include Primary school workshops through the RCS, community library workshops for beginners through the Tinderbox Collective, and Secondary school workshops to more experienced students.

Tutoring Approach:

I aspire to provide students with a holistic teaching approach, where the priority, creating and enriching musical ideas, is front and center. I believe that by predominantly focusing on playing musically and expressively, technique will come with it and shouldn't interfere.
I would play a lot in lessons, with the student and individually, as I believe having an experienced player to bounce ideas off is beneficial for both student and teacher, and duet/group playing is a fun and engaging way encourage musical inspiration.
