Information About Adam - Swanley teacher

Personal Description:

I am an experienced drummer and percussionist graduated from the University of Southampton in 2016 with a high 1st in my solo performance recital. I have played in almost every genre of drumming there is in my career over the last 10 years. I specialise in Jazz but also play to a very high level in Funk, Latin, Hip-hop, Rock, Pop, Samba and many more. Mostly I am a freelance drummer and percussionist involved in various projects such as Route2roots, Saints Brass Brand, Red Letter, Penquin and TUSK to name a few. I have played alongside and supported artists such as Roller Trio, Worldservice Project, Gary Crosby, Denys Baptiste, Liane Carroll, Ben Okafor, Emprical and Emily Dankworth. Recently I have supported artists such as Akala and Talib Kweli with Route2roots. I have also played at Marvellous Festival, Share the Sound Festival and the Southampton Modern Jazz Club. I have lots of pit band experience with over 4 seasons of professional pantomime and various musical theatre shows. I am fun, motivating, encouraging and keen to share my passion and knowledge with others.

Tutoring Experience:

I teach a variety of different ages and abilities from 4 upwards. I have experience teaching 1:1, small groups or larger classes and also work for the Academy of Music and Sound which involves small class instrumental teaching and 1:1 sessions. The Academy of Music and Sound allows me to share knowledge with students through a range of different teaching methods and for a variety of different musical genres.

I have also worked as a Musical Director for a youth theatre company who run summer schools in which students are cast their parts and then taught the entire show within a week and so I understand how to quickly develop a strong rapport with each student and identify their strengths and motivate them towards success.

Tutoring Approach:

When teaching an instrument, it is important to allow the student to dictate the pace and direction of learning. The students interests should be at the forefront of any activity and through doing this, the learner can achieve the greatest reward: success. I have a lot of experience of suiting individual learner needs and overcoming any barriers which may stop them from progressing. I tailor each lesson to the student to motivate them specifically in the areas they are looking to develop in.
