Personal Description:

My instrumental learning began at the age of 6 in my local brass band in Lancashire. This eventually lead to graduating from Newcastle University with a First Class (hons) degree in Music. I have had a broad playing experience across many genres and settings. Originally classically trained, I spent a lot of my degree and afterwords branching out into different genres. I have experience in Jazz, Latin, Pop, Folk, Funk, Blues and classical. I have played in pit bands for six different musical productions which include West Side Story and Hairspray. I have also studied and experienced Chinese and Eastern Musics whilst on a year studying abroad in Hong Kong.

Currently, I play in a band called Dansi, with whom I record, write, and play gigs up and down the UK as well as in Europe. Aside from this, I teach and work as a session musician, recording for bands in various studios around the North East.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been teaching both instrumental and theory lessons in the North East since 2016. I teach both privately and at the Nothern Music Centre, where I am the head of brass tuition. I also deliver brass lessons in High schools and Primary schools across the North East and I am head of brass tuition for the In Harmony project ran by Sage Gateshead. During this time I have guided numerous students through graded exams, from grade 1 to 8, including music theory.

Tutoring Approach:

My extensive experience in different genres and performing settings means that I can give a student a rounded music tuition and also find the genre/style which they prefer or want to play. Playing an instrument is an art and it is important they are playing something that they enjoy! My teaching experience has been with students of all ages and capabilities, meaning I am very flexible.
