Personal Description:
I am a professional singer whose voice has been described as 'heavenly'. Training at Trinity College of Music in London (Voice and Piano performance) and the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama (MA Voice), I have performed many solo roles in Opera and Musical Theatre as well as working as a session singer, touring internationally.
Tutoring Experience:
Voice: I have been teaching singing for 15 years. I am experienced with all ages from 7 to professional level. I am confident that my method really works to build a solid and healthy technique so that the voice is resilient and strong. I have helped many students to smooth the 'break' and to overcome damaging habits of vocal production.
Piano: For the past 20 years I have taught all ages and levels from complete beginner to grade 7.
Composition: I am Head of Music at an outstanding 6th form college and have been teaching and examining composition for many years.
Tutoring Approach:
Voice: I analyse the student's voice and vocal needs and devise a programme of exercises to build the strength and tone of the vocal instrument. Having researched many vocal production methods, I use both the Italian bel canto technique and the 'Complete Vocal Technique' system, teaching a healthy 'belt' tone production for pop and music theatre styles. I work on repertoire that helps to build skills and vocal technique and model techniques using my own voice when helpful.
Piano: I devise creative ways to engage students and find repertoire that inspires them.
Composition: I am a composition examiner for the A level exam board Eduqas. I teach the building blocks of composition - chords, scales, modes, rhythms, structure and textures. I build on the student's skills and stylistic preferences and incorporate analysis, listening and improvisation into lessons.
