Information About Tinyiko - Kloof tutor

Personal Description:

I'm stuyding BEng Electrical & Electronic Engineering at Stellenbosch University. I love general knowledge and trivia games. One way I like to reset is by going for walks in town, I find I feel recharged after being in a headspace charatersied by serenity.

Tutoring Experience:

I've did some tutoring in matric year for grade 10 maths. This was part of an effort by the tutoring committee at school (ran by matrics, I wasn't part of as a member but I was outsourced by them) to offer academic assistance to other pupils in the high school to help them get ready for their June exams. I did a few one-on-one lessons prior as well with people I met in passing, more as a favour than anything.

Tutoring Approach:

The approach I think works best is a bottom-up approach that has two basic parts.

Part 1: There should be a time for raw information absorbtion first (first starting with background context if possible- for example, talk about phenomenon of a police siren pitch changing as the police car drives past you as an intro to a lesson on the Doppler effect, followed by formal explaination and unpacking the theoretical concepts and drawing on relevant implications and what follows); during the first stage, questions asked will be answered, but at thus point, you can as a learner can jot down rough notes on a scrap piece of paper or tablet/iPad if a stylus the student has.

Part 2: The second part of the lesson, I would dedicate to engagin with materials (example problems for something like maths, where I can work through a problem slowly and explain what I'm doing with direct reference to the theiry and concepts explained in the first part, to bridge that gap and reinforce the learning.
