Personal Description:

My name is Shanead and I graduated from Stellenbosch University in 2024. I have been tutoring regularly since then. I am passionate about the expression of ideas and the joy felt when new concepts finally click. Academic and creative writing have always been interests of mine and I love delving into poetry and comprehension. I highly enjoy tutoring both English and Business as I am confident in these topics and find it very rewarding to see progress in my students.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been an Au Pair in Stockholm for 8 months, where I did English and Mathematics with two 9-year-olds in 2019. Since being back in South Africa I have worked part-time at a homeschooling centre, moving between primary school and high school children as a tutor in 2020. I have tutored high school English since 2024 and Business since 2025. I graduated from an IEB school with English and Mathematical Literacy distinctions, as well as 90% for my Oral External Moderation. I am a graduate of the EMS faculty of Stellenbosch University and a paralegal practitioner from University of Cape Town.

Tutoring Approach:

I prefer to create a calm, accepting and encouraging environment in which to teach. Schools can be very high-stress and children are often put on the spot, focusing so much on looking the part for their teachers that they forget to take in the information given to them. I base my lessons around the students realising the knowledge they already have, as well as their capabilities to learn and express new concepts. I believe we do better when we are excited about what we are doing. This being said, I try and bring a gentle yet orderly manner into my teaching. Lesson plans and layouts change depending on the individual student, their needs and their knowledge.
