Information About Sarie - Bela-Bela tutor

Personal Description:

I am a qualified Quantity Surveyor with the degree (BScQS) - a 5 year degree which I obtained at Pretoria university. I was always very enthoesiastic working with and teaching children. I thus had a wonderful opportunity when I was 3 years ago appointed at a private school to teach - mainly Afrikaans - for grades 4 to 7 These last 3 years was an interesting time while teaching learners according to the National Curriculum, adding poems, stories, songs, and even short trips to aim to ensure that children acquire and apply knowledge and skills in ways that are meaningful to their own lives. To encourage a weak learner and see how he / she excel was marvellous opportunities for both teacher and learners.

Tutoring Experience:

Although I offered Sunday School classes all my life fo different age groups, (epecially the very lttle ones) My school experience was mainly in intermediate phase. (grade 4 to 7) The Tsonga learners start with Afrikaans in grade 4 for the first time, at this stage do no know one single word in Afrikaans. I was also the beloved Grade 4 class teacher, and I think a lot of success is due to my love for each individual learner and my eager to help everyone to make the biggest success according to his / hers own ability. I had 7 different classes to teach Afrikaans and I am proud that NONE of the learners falied Afrikaans in the 3 years I taught them. I also believe a classroom full of posters and learning stuff built positive relations, and help with communications and to stay connected with the learners. My degree was built on mainly Mathematics and is thus another challenge to taught. Other subjects I offered at school were Life Skills, Geeography and History.

Tutoring Approach:

Although following the basic National Curriculum Standards in South Africa, it is important to me to gain more interest from the learners by adding interesting poems, songs, stories, interesting posters, videos, and even short trips acording to the lesson. If the work in not understand by the learner, it has to be explained in another way or format of learning. Although knowledge of work is important, the main concept to to apply skills to be able to use the knowledge in specific tasks. Learners must therefore be able to work with information, to learn to be responsible, and to excel in commmunication. These abilities will help them throughout life.
