Personal Description:
I am a hardworking person that enjoys working with young people. I am very kind and will crack a few jokes that my learners will have to listen to. I know I do not know everything but I ensure I research and educate myself before I teach a concept or topic. I am a forever learner regardless of my qualifications which means I love learning from the learners I teach. I am extremely empathetic to other people’s feelings as I am a very sensitive individual and throughout my life had to learn emotional regulation techniques.
Tutoring Experience:
I have worked as an au pair since 2019. I worked with children ranging from the ages of 8 years old to 16 years old. I assisted with homework, exam preparation, fun activities and their personal growth. I au paired one family with a learner with dyslexia and another family with a learner with Autism. These learners suffered with learning barriers which I assisted in supporting the learners to adapt to the school work and peer interactions. In 2024 I facilitated a Grade R learner that had behavioural issues that impacted his interactions within the classroom. The teacher was unable to provide support and cope. I supported the learner with emotional regulation techniques that assisted with his frustration and behavioural outbursts. I also assisted with ensuring he focused for longer periods of time and completed his work at the same pace as his peers or the educator’s expectations. The learner needed assistance with peer interactions as his behavioural outbursts would interfere with making friends. I have worked as a Substitute educator for a Grade 2 classroom and a Grade 4 classroom for short periods when the educators were unable to teach.
Tutoring Approach:
I believe any learner has the capacity to learn and be taught I as the tutor need to unlock this capacity through different learning and teaching techniques. I prioritise the work but I do believe in a comfortable learning environment that welcomes personal stories, jokes and straying off the topic here and there. I like to include my learner’s interests, hobbies and strengths in my lessons to make the tutoring sessions more interesting and relatable. I will throughly prepare for the tutoring sessions especially with topics I may need to brush up on as I have been studying for the past two years completing my Honours in Learning Support.
