Personal Description:

I would class myself as a very kind, caring and compassionate person. These being the reasons why teaching has been my true calling in life. It is a profession in which I have excelled and learned the true meaning of motivation, creativity and patience. I have found my teaching to be most rewarding and satisfying. I am also a very creative person, with a love for are and crafts, which have been most useful in my teaching. My love for reading and researching, have been extremely important when imparting knowledge to my students. My love for exploring, walking and going on adventures are key to a fulfilling and happy life, which of course is an essential reflection onto your students.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been teaching in South Africa for the past 20 years, specifically in Foundation Phase(Grades 1,2,3). During my teaching experience, I have taught at an English medium school, where most of our learners are not English speaking. I understand the difficulties, frustrations and challenges that they face on a daily basis. I have been the head of my department for the past four years, in which time I set up a remedial program for learners who experience barriers to learning this complex language. I also completed a 130 hour TEFL course, as well as provide private tutoring every afternoon at a remedial center. My private tutoring involves assisting Autistic children and children struggling with both English, Mathematics and Afrikaans.

Tutoring Approach:

Although I have not done any online tutoring, my 20 years teaching experience, private tutoring and TEFL course have equipped me with the necessary skills and expertise to become an excellent online teacher. The approach of an online teacher, I believe would be to make your lessons fun and inspiring, in order for your students to want to continue with you and of course grasp the subject you are teaching, whether it be English or Mathematics. it would be necessary to create an environment where your students would feel free to express themselves, which of course would be vital in mastering the English language. A teacher at any level should be professional, friendly and practice patience and understanding at all times. As a teacher, I understand the importance of giving clear and concise instructions and repeating/revising areas or concepts that your students may have failed to grasp the first time. Always be opened minded, creative and flexible. All children learn and grasp things differently, so it is vital to adapt your lessons accordingly.
