Personal Description:

My name is Erna. I have a B.Sc degree in Maths and love teaching individual students, helping them with their problem areas and building up their confidence, so that doing Maths can be a positive experience for them. I love outdoor life, am musical and am also an artist.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been tutoring Maths with English as medium on a one-on-one basis for 20 years to learners from grade 5 to grade 12. I was also a full time teacher in a private school following the ACE curriculum for 8 years.

Tutoring Approach:

I adapt my approach for different students, depending on their needs. I assess and then work on the problem areas or missing concepts or we work on the concepts they request help with. I use worksheets in the lower grades and summary sheets in higher grades. In grade 11 and 12 we do a lot of old papers. I let the student do the bulk of the work so as to assess which steps or concepts need more explanation and then give special attention to that. I also explain studying methods for mastering Maths, as well as practice, practice, practice!
