Personal Description:

Hi there! I am a Stellenbosch University graduate living in Cape Town. I majored in English Literature, Philosophy, Psychology and also studied Social Anthropology and Linguistics. I did art theory, history and practical all through school and still paint to this day as an adult - I am skilled in oil and acrylic; pencil and charcoal drawings.
I am extremely passionate about language, writing and literature in general. I'm an avid reader - fantasy being my favourite: Getting lost in different worlds.
I'm quirky, mature, friendly, bubbly and kind and feel I have the patience and understanding of people to be a great teacher. I also love building relationships with new people and fully understand the struggles of maintaining motivation and diligence when studying, which is why I believe that course work should somehow be made enjoyable to increase interest and an excitement to learn.

Tutoring Experience:

I have no 'formal' teaching/training, but I have tutored both adults and children. I have been told by a few people that I would be a great teacher and feel I have the necessary patience, firmness, understanding of people and communication skills of a good tutor. I have had 3 medium term clients through this platform - all her were very happy with my services.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that identifying and isolating the gaps and weaknesses in the students knowledge of the subject matter is key and the first step of the learning process and this can partly be done by also finding out what are the tutee's strengths and favourite elements of the coursework - dually a process of elimination, as well as affirmation and a confidence booster. I love sharing ideas and engaging my students in discussion and conversation.

I also firmly believe that a positive learning environment and relationship between the tutor and student is key to effective and efficient learning. This has been something I noted from my own learning experience: When you feel positive associations towards your tutor/teacher, your interest in the subject increases and learning becomes more competent. One of my worst subjects in school (averaging 30s-40s) became my highest mark in matric, because of my feelings toward the teacher and her teaching techniques and methods. Learning should be fun as this is the best route to retention and engagement!
