Information About Anthony - Bathurst tutor

Personal Description:

Music has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember. I began to learn music at the age of three. For me the sound of everything was the most intriguing of all. The whole world was alive with it. I tapped everything as a youngster to hear its tone and thus rhythm became a mainstay for me on all my instruments. I started with the piano, singing and percussion and then moved on to the drum kit, congas and the guitar as a teen. Songwriting and short instrumental pieces became important to me and then later on I took on more serious composition once my university studies began. I have obtained both a bachelors and a masters degree in music.

Tutoring Experience:

I have taught a number of instruments and disciplines for over twenty five years including; drum kit, Latin and African percussion, acoustic guitar, voice, songwriting and composition. In the last few years I have focused more on the acoustic guitar and how to play chord melody in a number of genres including pop, jazz and contemporary. I too teach bass guitar and ukulele.
I currently have a part time job teaching guitar, bass and ukulele at Diocesan School for Girls in Makanda/Grahamstown and I take on private students too through online lessons. I enjoy teaching all level of students from beginners to advanced.

Tutoring Approach:

Tutoring for me is all about the student. I don't have a one size fits all approach for everyone. First I must discover how my student understands music before I know how to teach them. Some students prefer learning things by ear, others prefer lyric sheets with chords and others, scored music. I will en-devour as I have always, to teach you in the way that best fits you and encourage you to push yourself a little further when you have gained enough confidence in your playing. In a nut shell I will cover all aspects of music from learning better technique to training your ear and learning by rote, to learning how to read too, if that is your desire.
