Information About Amy - Roodepoort tutor

Personal Description:

Hi, my name is Amy and I am from South Africa. I love reading, listening to music and being outside. I like one-on-one interactions with people of all ages and from different places, as learning about people is also one of my interests. I am currently also teaching music during the week, and on the weekends I DJ in Newtown, Johannesburg. I have a degree in English and I'm finishing up a 120 hour TEFL certification.

Tutoring Experience:

I have taught piano, vocals, and beginner music appreciation for the last five years. I started at a school-based studio in 2019, moved to a private music studio in 2021, and this year I have opened my own practice. My students have ranged from the age of three years to seventy-five, and over the covid-19 period I got the opportunity to hone my online teaching skills.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a student-centred approach to tutoring, where the intent is to create a comfortable space that a student is excited to engage in. My experience has taught me that the most learning happens when a lesson is fun and interesting, giving the student opportunities to ask questions and try things for themselves. Music is a universal language in itself, and I use it to connect with students and elevate their experience of learning English.
