I am a violin teacher with more than 35 years violin teaching experience.I am from Germany and I have been living in NZ for 8 years together with my wife, who is a jewellery maker and designer. I work as a self-employed, full-time violin teacher. In my free-time I do a lot of sports like swimming and jogging. Other fields of interest are psychology and playing chess. I love cooking and of course I am interested in all styles of music!
I am the conductor of a four-part choir in Auckland. We perform Gospels, Spirituals and Classical Music, partly accompanied by piano.
I will shortly reside in Nelson, but you can already contact me regarding violin lessons. I will teach my students at my house, but I am also happy to teach them at their home. As soon as I will be in Nelson again, I would be happy to meet you for a free and non-binding lesson or if you are a beginner for your 1st try to play the violin!
I started playing the violin at the age of 5. I learned the violin in individual private lessons and joined orchestras and music groups at an early stage. At the age of 15 I started studying the violin at the Lübeck Academy of Music (Germany) with Professor Klaus-Dieter Dassow (violinist at the Symphony Orchestra of the Northern Germany Radio Station). Instructed by him I started giving violin lessons at the age of 16.
To broaden my educational spectrum, I did not sit my final violin concert exam, but started a study in Business Administration and graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce. During that time I successfully taught violin students both beginners with no background in music as well as experienced musicians.
I also played with various orchestras, e.g. the Chamber Orchestra Pro Musica or the Cologne Orchestra Society. I have profound orchestral and ensemble experience. I worked with ensembles like string quartets on musical interaction and musical interpretation and I optimized their performance quality.
I have the proven ability to successfully teach and motivate students at all ages and levels and to make violin playing enjoyable for everybody.
After the first few lessons I develop an individual teaching plan and discuss it with the student resp. with their parents. This plan is based on the specific skills and strengths of the student and it covers the most important areas of the further training and the corresponding sheet music.
Before each lesson I explain to the student what we will work on. Afterwards I review the lesson and write down, what and how the student shall practice. All pieces and exercises will be previously played and explained during the lesson.
I teach the practical technique of violin playing and the accompanying music theory. I tailor the choice of music and the way of teaching to the needs and interests of my students.
I introduce my students to musical interaction at an early stage and let them play musical pieces together.
I think that apart from professional teaching and learning, playing an instrument must be fun and my students definitely enjoy playing the violin. My youngest student is 3,5 years old, the oldest one is 61 years old.
