Information About Shula - Wellington tutor

Personal Description:

I am primary school teacher with 12 years of experience. I really enjoy teaching and seeing children develop their knowledge, skills and confidence. I lived in Japan for seven years and completed Masters at a Japanese university - all lectures, research, fieldwork, presentations and thesis were conducted in Japanese. I thoroughly enjoying teaching Japanese and have taught it at some level for the last three years at NZ schools.

Tutoring Experience:

I've taught all primary years except Year 2, including teaching at international school in Tokyo and Milan following UK and IB curriculums.

Tutoring Approach:

I would identify the student's learning level and their needs and gaps in the first lesson and then work to increase their skills and confidence. I teach using a variety of teaching methods and resources:
maths - hands on materials and visuals to teach various strategies for solving problems
writing - features of various writing styles and how to include and develop these, vocab selection, use of paragraphs, elaborating on ideas, complexity of ideas, grammar, sentence structure, spelling and editing.
reading - strategies such as inferring, evaluating, synthesising, reorganising information, analysing etc as well as vocab knowledge and strategies for working out the meaning of unknown words
Japanese - reading, writing, listening and speaking practise at the student's level, teaching hiragana, katakana and kanji as well as new vocab and grammar rules.
