Personal Description:
Hello! I am a keen, enthusiastic and qualified TEFL teacher who is passionate about helping my students achieve their goals learning English. My patience, positivity and kindness help me to build strong relationships with my students and obtain the best results with them.
I received a First-Class degree with honours for my undergraduate History degree, and a Distinction in my International Business Masters degree. I have always strived for excellence in my own studies and have always been enthusiastic to help others achieve the same.
I have obtained a Level 5 qualification in Teaching English as a Foreign Language, enabling me to teach English both in-person and online. My passion for teaching has extended into the Snowsports industry, where I am a qualified Level 2 Ski Instructor, something which combines my joy of teaching with my desire to remain active.
As a very active person, I enjoy road-cycling, playing squash and rock climbing (as well as the skiing!). I am also an avid traveller and keen photographer, which is a great pairing when I get to explore new places in the world!
Tutoring Experience:
Whilst teaching English in Thailand at a Primary School I primarily taught 6-10 year olds, where my main focus was speaking, reading, listening and writing. I used a variety of resources to teach, including songs worksheets, games and flashcards – something which I can also implement within my online teaching. I built a strong rapport with my students and communicated well with their parents during parent-teacher meetings to ensure they were aware of the potential of their children, as well as any additional tasks they could be completing to further their English learning. I have also provided online tuition to students in Hong Kong, studying for the Cambridge Preliminary English Test.
I have really increased my experience in working with different age ranges through my ski instructing, having taught skiing to children as young as 3 years old, and given technical lessons to skiers of 65 years of age. I have regularly taken school groups of children, which has greatly improved my behaviour and classroom management abilities even though we are on a ski slope! Teaching skiing has also impressed upon me the importance of breaking down technique into small chunks and providing one to one feedback, something which I have transferred across into my online teaching.
Tutoring Approach:
My teaching approach is highly adaptive and engaging, having been informed and developed by my diverse teaching experience.
Having taught English in Thailand, as well as to children in Hong Kong, I’m adept at tailoring my teaching methods to suit individual learning styles and cultural backgrounds, which helps ensure that each and every student feels understood and supported.
I ensure that my students can feel the enthusiasm I have for teaching in the lessons I am giving to them, as well as sharing my own interests where relevant to enhance their learning experience. I always seek to cultivate a desire for learning in my students, rather than the sole pursuit of their immediate goals.
