Personal Description:
I am currently studying the Bachelor of Science/Doctor of Medicine medical program at the University of Sydney, and was awarded the Chancellor's Scholarship for outstanding academic results.
In Year-13, I achieved the perfect ATAR score of 99.95, meaning I placed in the top 30 students New Zealand-wide who sat NCEA Level 3 in 2022. I studied Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Calculus, Statistics, English and Earth and Space Science in NCEA Level 3 and achieved Excellence in all of my standards, giving me a total of 143 Excellence NCEA Level 3 credits.
Throughout high school I participated in several academic competitions such as the Australian Mathematics competition, New Zealand Physics and Mathematics Competition, New Zealand Chemistry Olympiad, New Zealand Mathematics Olympiad, CASIO Calculator Mathematics competition and several others. In these competitions I achieved high rankings throughout, including a New Zealand wide rank of 11th in the New Zealand Physics and Mathematics Competition, 1st place in the CASIO Calculator Mathematics competition, ranking in the top 40 students New Zealand wide for the New Zealand Chemistry Olympiad, ranking top 50 New Zealand wide for the New Zealand Mathematics Olympiad, and achieving several Distinction awards for the Australian Mathematics Competition.
I hold a strong passion for sharing my knowledge with others through teaching, and always aim to help students achieve their true academic potential. For me, there remains no greater achievement than seeing my students achieve their academic aspirations, all whilst instilling in my students, an enthusiasm for the subjects they study.
Tutoring Experience:
I was an academic tutor in my high school for over an year and helped many students, of all year levels, to understand concepts they found difficult and better prepared them for exams so they could become better academic versions of themselves.
I am very passionate about sharing my knowledge with others and teaching students, so that I can help students who are in the same position now as I was in school. I aim to help my students achieve high academic calibre and become the best academic versions of themselves, so they can achieve their academic aspirations.
Tutoring Approach:
I understand that learning is a gradual process, which is why I know that it is of utmost importance to create an atmosphere where my students can freely make mistakes to grow. In every lesson, I ensure that I create an environment where my student can feel comfortable asking me as many questions as they want and can improve their understanding of concepts.
I strongly believe that practice is the key to solidifying concepts. This is why, after every lesson, I give my students worksheets which contain practice questions on the topics covered in the lesson. Then, during the beginning of the next lesson I like to examine my students' solutions to those problems, which allows me to judge the topics my students require greater help with understanding. Through this, I am able to provide targeted tutoring to help my students reach proficiency in their subjects.
In each lesson, I integrate diagrams and a virtual whiteboard to aid my explanations of topics. From my own experiences and previous experiences of my students, I have found that the integration of virtual and verbal explanations further engages students, and allows for a better comprehension of the topics being taught.
Throughout my lessons, I like to take intermittent pauses, where I ask my students questions on the concepts covered so far. This allows me to judge my students' understanding of topics throughout the lesson, and understand what concepts require greater attention, ensuring my student is able to reach proficiency in that topic.
These are some of the numerous approaches I like to undertake to ensure my students can achieve proficiency in their subjects and get one step closer to achieving their academic aspirations and goals.
