Personal Description:
I am an experienced teacher with a passion for the sciences. I have returned to university to study for my PhD and so have space once more for tutees.
I am an effective communicator and work hard to get students achieving more than they could with class time alone.
BSc Biochemistry (Hons), PGCE, MSc Tropical Marine Biology, currently undertaking my PhD with a microbiology focus.
Tutoring Experience:
I have experienced a decade as a qualified teacher!
Additionally, as an NCEA Biology marker I know what examiners look for in excellence level answers and where students often "go wrong" in exam technique.
I have taught across the NCEA, Cambridge and IB courses in Biology. I am comfortable teaching Biology to tertiary level.
I am also a capable teacher of Chemistry up to Year 13, and have regularly tutored NCEA Chemistry.
I am comfortable teaching Physics to Year 11.
I have taught in both New Zealand and the UK and have been fortunate enough to work in a school in the top 1% academically in the UK as well as a top 10 school in New Zealand (Crimson Education list).
Tutoring Approach:
I vary my use of resources to keep students engaged but primarily lessons are broken down into:
1. Questions from the week at school
2. Fundamental concept reviews
3. New content
4. Putting learning into practice (i.e. past paper questions).
