Information About Mike - Wellington tutor

Personal Description:

I am an enthusiastic, passionate and dedicated teacher and have recently relocated to New Zealand from the UK.

My teaching ethos is built on forming excellent working relationships with students, ensuring that lessons are fun and exciting whilst maintaining the highest expectations of student progress.

I am a friendly and approachable person with an open and collaborative teaching style; I explain challenging concepts clearly whilst encouraging students to ask questions and think critically. I am a native English speaker and am fully committed to the safeguarding of young people, with a recent Police Certificate issued in the UK.

As well as science, my interests include climbing, tramping, cycling, music and travelling.

Tutoring Experience:

I have three years of experience as a qualified teacher of science in the UK, and have a Masters degree in physics from the University of Oxford.

I have taught physics up to A-level (equivalent to NCEA Level 3), chemistry up to GCSE (NCEA level 1) and general science to years 7-9. In addition to classroom teaching, I ran regular support sessions after school to help students with their work and to prepare for exams. My classes have consistently achieved great results and I am in the process of registering with the New Zealand Education Council.

Tutoring Approach:

I can tutor either at the student's home or Wellington City Library. I can vary my approach according to the student's needs; this could include helping with independent study and homework, teaching prepared lessons on tricky subjects or working on examination technique.
