Personal Description:
I have been enjoying teaching Mathematics for many years now - I started my teaching career in South Africa; then my family and I moved to the beautiful country of New Zealand at the start of 1997. I am a Mathematics teacher at a sought-after boys school in Auckland. I can speak three languages: English, Afrikaans and Mathematics. Yes, Mathematics is a language, a symbolic one at that and an effective means of communication. As a universal language, it offers a wonderful opportunity of relating your thoughts and ideas to others in a way that no other language can. It helps to bridge the gap between the abstract and the real world. As you become more competent in Mathematics, your confidence will grow and doors of opportunity will open like never before. You simply need patience, staying-power and someone who believes in you and helps you to stay in the game.

Tutoring Experience:
30 years of teaching Mathematics across all the available education pathways (NCEA, Cambridge and IB)
I have taught at three schools in New Zealand, starting off in Whangarei in the late 90's.
I have tutored at various Private Centers eg EduExperts and have worked with students of all school-going ages.

Tutoring Approach:
My approach to tutoring and Mathematics teaching in general is simple: I will provide you with strict, proven routines that will develop your love and reason for Mathematics - one spin off of this approach is that your success in formal assessments will improve. I will help you to see the picture and pattern within the abstract nature of the problem. You will be expected to show every step of your reasoning in answering questions - the calculator will be your last tool in the box, not the first. No short cuts. Repetition and tidy presentation are paramount - then we move slowly towards a problem-solving approach where your confidence and staying-power take the lead.
