Personal Description:

Kia ora!

My name is Martin . I am a secondary English teacher in Canterbury. I am 30 years old, and have taught from years 9-13.

I am passionate about literature, ideas, thinking, reflecting, and experiencing the world.

Tutoring Experience:

I have taught for 4 years.
In this time, I have taught both junior and senior high school curriculum, including NCEA levels 1-3.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that an ethic of care is essential to a safe classroom experience. The fostering of positive relationships is something that I believe is vital to making ākonga feel empowered in their learning.

To be critically reflective means to continually adapt my pedagogy. This gives me the opportunity to recognise diverse ākonga knowledge, and consequently implement them into the curriculum.

My experience has taught me that ākonga navigate many environments, some of which are rigid and unfamiliar. As an educator, I believe that it is my job to make their learning as accessible and engaging as possible.

I believe that inclusivity is perhaps the most important aspect an educator can nurture in their practice. To me, inclusivity means to foster and accommodate for all ākonga, and to recognise that everyone has something meaningful to contribute.
