Information About Jessie - Auckland tutor

Personal Description:

I graduated with a Bachelor of Pharmacy First Class Honors in 2021 with NZPERF sponsoring my honors project. I was the 2020 and 2021 treasurer for the New Zealand Association of Pharmacy Students Otago and havef been awarded the Fred Fastier Summer Studentship Research Scholarship in 2020 and the University of Otago's Leaders of Tomorrow Entrance Scholarship at a Distinction Level in 2018. I have completed all my papers with an A+ average.

I achieved 41 out of 45 for my International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma in 2017, scoring full marks in Biology, Mandarin, and Physics, thus was invited to attend the NZ Top IB Scholar Award. I also received the NZQA Scholarship Award for Chinese in 2016 and endorsed NCEA Level 1 with Excellence in 2015.

Tutoring Experience:

I was a volunteer Tutor at InZone Tutoring for the Epsom Girls Grammar hostel for two years, teaching girls from Year 9~12.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to first gain the level of understanding the student has in the subject to know where they are at. This way, I can determine whether I would need to consolidate the basics or jump straight into building on their knowledge.

When I teach, I like to explain the content of the subject in detail, making sure that they understand it thoroughly. I achieve this through using analogies, different examples, and also questioning the student to get them thinking instead of giving out the answer directly.

I also like to utilize past papers to ensure students develop a technique to approach exam-type questions and have the ability to solve them.
