Information About Emily - Otaki tutor

Personal Description:

I'm a mature woman in my seventies who has been teaching since I was 21 years old. I began teaching as a science teacher, but after the birth of my three children I moved into teaching English, both to International Students and to students whose first language was English. I was born in Wales, UK, and moved to NZ in 1974, having lived in Hong Kong for 2 years.
I love NZ nature, I'm an organic gardener - growing my own food, I'm a photographer and a beginner potter - turning clay into bowls and plates.

Tutoring Experience:

In 1997 I began running my own English Language School in the Wairarapa, which I did for 10 years. After that I taught at St Matthew's Collegiate in Masterton for 10 years.
More recently I have been a relief teacher at Wellington College, while also teaching priva**Contact Detail Removed**ssons to two boys from Otaki College - one was Japanese and he will be going to a tertiary institution in Auckland in 2023, the other is a New Zealand boy who will continue getting help from me in 2023 with level 2 NCEA

Tutoring Approach:

Life is a big learning curve, so my approach is one of providing the right environment for the student to develop learning skills that will take them through life. The internet is a fantastic tool for inspiration, for finding interesting reading and listening material. I take into account the age and interests of my students, while looking for avenues to broaden their ideas. I use the teaching of English to explore life.
