Personal Description:
I have been a mathematician for 30 years. Most of that time was spent teaching and researching in academic institutions. For the last two years I have been a researcher into algorithms for a company doing network security analysis. My speciality is in logic, algebra and combinatorics, although I have decent knowledge of most areas of mathematics and statistics up through undergradua**Contact Detail Removed**vel. And some skill at programming.
Tutoring Experience:
I did private tutoring in math while an undergraduate.
I taught math small sessions (30 people) as part of my doctoral training.
I instructed math at M.I.T. for two years, mostly small classes.
I have taught at Victoria University of Wellington as a lecture in math for 26 years. This covered all levels from
basic first year through Ph.D. students, and class sizes from 1 to 300.
Tutoring Approach:
I prefer to work through exercises together. This allows me to assess strengths and weaknesses in a students approach to solving problems and then move to make changes that improve the students problem-solving ability. This involves a mixture of demonstration of methods and exercises that the student will try.
