My name is Charles. I was born and raised in West Auckland. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science from The University of Auckland in 2001. I double-majored in Geography and Environmental Science.

Tutoring Experience:

On the 21st of May, 2002, I left New Zealand to begin my ESOL teaching career in South Korea. I taught English in South Korea for 16 years. In 2008 I gained my TESOL teaching certificate from the International TEFL Teacher Training Academy. While in South Korea, I taught in private language schools as well as public elementary and middle schools. The last teaching position I held was with the Jecheon Office of Education in Chungcheongbuk-do, South Korea. On the 1st of February, I returned to New Zealand to continue with my ESOL teaching career. Currently, I am teaching adult migrants and refugees as well as studying for my New Zealand Certificate in Adult Literacy and Numeracy Education (NZCALNE) and my New Zealand Certificate in Adult Tertiary Teaching (NZCATT)

Tutoring Approach:

I believe the fundamental goal of teaching is to foster learning.
I embrace teaching as an opportunity to inspire and empower. As an ESOL teacher, it is my philosophy that by providing students with a friendly, supportive learning environment, I can help reduce their learning anxieties and therefore boost their learning progress.
When students are relaxed, they will be able to focus on learning. In addition, when they have no fear of embarrassment or negative criticism, they will be more willing to express their ideas and participate in class openly. It is my goal to create an environment in which students feel comfortable to learn.
