Personal Description:

My name is Ann **Removed By Admin** and I am a 46 year old qualified TEFL/TESOL teacher. I have been teaching foreign students from my home office for the last year.

My students have ranged in age from 6 years old to 46 and have come from countries like China, Japan, Vietnam, Czech Republic and the Ukraine. Some need help with school work, while others need help with business English or help with preparation for IELTS exams. I have greatly enjoyed this occupation so far and now I am looking for more opportunities to teach online.

Up to this point, I have been giving one hour lessons to each student covering areas of grammar, comprehension, pronunciation, and conversation. I tailor each lesson to meet the students requirements (e.g. work orientated tasks, or help with general school work)

Tutoring Experience:

Teaching students from my home office for the past year. Tutoring University students and giving lectures in Environmental Science.

Tutoring Approach:

I usually begin with a free initial consultation in which I talk to the student (or in the case of a young child; both the students and parents) about the goals and needs of the individual. For example, it may be certain areas of school work we need to focus on, or improving English skills in a professional business environment. Also some students want to focus solely on passing their IELTS exams. After the initial consultation I then plan out the best approach for each individual. Usually an hour lesson is divided into four sections 1) grammar 2) comprehension 3) pronunciation 4) conversation (spontaneous or formal) and 5) news. I give out a new vocabulary list each week and set essay questions if requested. I also record conversations on voice memos which I then send on messenger to students cell phones so they can practice the conversation we have had or focus on new words they have had trouble pronouncing correctly. I encourage my adult students to give feedback and ask them each lesson if there is a certain area of focus they would like to work on in the next lesson then I integrate that into the next lesson. I also encourage parents of young students to let me know if they are happy with the lesson content or would prefer a different area of focus for subsequent lessons. I have received a lot of positive feedback from this approach and my students have increased from word of mouth recommendations.
