Personal Description:

Hi, I am an energetic mother of 3 grown young man and live with my husband of 30 years in Marlborough. I love life, and spend a lot of time running in the mountains, weeding our garden, reading books, cooking, taking photos and I like to spend time with my family too.
I also love being physically active, especially through running, biking and swimming. I have completed many competitive national and international triathlons, ironman competitions and ultra runs.
I was born in Germany and trained as a nurse in a German hospital. My husband and I immigrated to New Zealand 30 years ago and now call this our home.

Tutoring Experience:

After graduating from the University of Canterbury with a Bachelor of Teaching and Learning I taught full time in various Marlborough Primary Schools across all age groups, for 14 years. I have a deep interest in and passion for the core learning areas of Mathematics and Literacy, which form the base for all other academic learning. I have completed several Maths Professional Development courses. I have experienced that students learn best when they solve real-life number and word problems, extend their mathematical vocabulary and express their mathematical thinking, while learning to use materials and tools. Throughout my teaching years I was Health and PE Head of Department, Team Leader, ESOL specialist and Within School Leader.

Tutoring Approach:

I love to inspire young people so they become motivated learners. The core learning areas are still very important as students learn to read and write and calculate. But once this is achieved students read and write and calculate to learn what they are passionate about. Ultimately they need to be able to take responsibility for their own learning, become resilient to face challenges with courage and develop the necessary life skills.
