Personal Description:
Hi! I'm Alliah, a Bachelor of Science student at the University of Otago majoring in Neuroscience with a minor in Criminology. I'm passionate about learning and even more passionate about helping others enjoy the process too. With a background in working with children and young people, I’ve developed strong communication skills, patience, and an encouraging approach. I thrive in both leadership and support roles and bring a warm, enthusiastic attitude to everything I do. Whether it's schoolwork or study skills, I love making things click for people—and watching their confidence grow.
Tutoring Experience:
I currently work as a tutor with Hazlett Tutoring in Dunedin, where I support both NCEA students and younger learners across subjects including science, English, and study skills. I tailor my sessions to suit each student’s academic level and learning style, whether that means simplifying complex concepts or helping with exam techniques.
Previously, I’ve worked as a Programme Leader at Kid Station and MASH Kids, where I helped children with their homework and planned fun, age-appropriate activities. These roles helped me develop strong skills in one-on-one teaching, patience, and creating a safe learning environment. I’ve also held leadership roles throughout high school where I mentored peers and younger students.
Tutoring Approach:
My approach is encouraging, clear, and tailored to each student’s needs. I believe in creating a calm and supportive space where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes—because that’s when real learning happens.
I break down challenging concepts into manageable steps, adapt my teaching style to match how each student learns best, and use tools like visual aids or real-life examples to help things stick. My goal is not just to improve grades, but to help students become more independent and confident in their learning. Whether we're prepping for exams or building foundational skills, I’m here to help students feel capable, motivated, and proud of their progress.
