Information About Alexandra - Lyttelton tutor

Personal Description:

I am a mathematics and statistics graduate from the university of Otago with honours in mathematics. After working for a bank for a few years, I moved to Scotland to do my masters in Operations Research (Mathematics) specializing in the models behind relief aid operations.

Tutoring Experience:

I have 5 years of experience private 1-1 tutoring as well as experience running tutorials for the maths and stats department at Otago university. I have tutored high school up to 3rd year university papers. Recently in Scotland I tutored online due to covid & so I have experience tutoring both one on one online & in larger groups.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe maths problems all break down to smaller problems & learning how to do this, and which smaller problem to start with is one of the main keys. I work with the student to gain a good understanding of their building block knowledge, and to find out which step is hindering their ability to answer the question. Maths is very difficult to learn when it remains abstract so I work to put problems into a context that is interesting to the student & help showcase to them where maths is used, and why it is important.
