Personal Description:

Hola, Bonjour !

My name is Sorcha and I am a qualified French and Spanish secondary school teacher with over ten years experience giving private grinds classes. All of my grinds classes have been online since 2020.

I completed a First Class Honours BA in Modern Languages, specialising in French and Spanish and a First Class Honours Professional Master in Education both at UCD.

I offer weekly, hour-long classes at €40/hr for Junior Cycle and €50/hr at Senior Cycle or for University students. I also run oral exam workshops for 6th year students where we prepare answers to all questions and do weekly practice oral exams.

All classes and courses are tailored to each individual student according to their needs!

All classes take place online via Zoom.

Tutoring Experience:

I received an A1 in French in my Leaving Cert and a B1 in Spanish (which I started in 5th year). Since then I have lived in Madrid, Paris, Seville and Valencia, including teaching English and French to Spanish children and working as an attraction operator in Disneyland Paris!

I graduated from UCD in 2019 with a first class honours in Modern Languages, majoring in French and Spanish. I graduated again in 2022 with a first class honours from UCD in the Professional Master's in Education.

I have five years Secondary School teaching experience, as well as over ten years experience of grinds classes. I have taught all ages and levels and have helped many students with specific learning needs.

Approach to Grinds:

Learning languages is often seen as something you can or cannot do. I wholeheartedly disagree with this. I think each student is capable of improving and perfecting their language skills. Enjoying the language learning experience is a big part of this and something I try to bring into each of my classes.

I am skilled at seeing the language through the eyes of the student in front of me, and ensuring I approach learning in a way that makes sense to them. I usually take a couple of classes to get to know the student's level and way of seeing language and I make a plan from there based on each student's individual goals.

I think it is always important to remember that languages are not just school subjects - they are living things that open up new countries, cultures, cinema, cuisines etc. to us!
