Personal Description:

Hi, my name is Sorcha and I am a qualified French and Spanish teacher with over nine years experience giving private grinds classes.

I am currently taking on a few new students for the remainder of this academic year. All of my classes are one on one, tailored to each individual student. I charge €50 per hour for Senior Cycle and €40 for Junior Cycle classes.

Tutoring Experience:

I received an A1 in French in my leaving cert and a B1 in Spanish (which I started in 5th year). Since then I have lived in Madrid, Paris, Seville and Valencia, including teaching English and French to Spanish children and working as an attraction operator in Disneyland Paris!

I graduated from UCD in 2019 with a first class honours in Modern Languages, majoring in French and Spanish. I graduated again in 2022 with a first class honours from UCD in the Professional Master's of Education.

I have given grinds in both French and Spanish since I was in 6th year in Secondary School. I have taught all levels, from complete beginners to those aiming for top marks in the state exams. I have taught university students and those with individual learning needs.

I offer grinds to all levels and abilities from primary school to University level.

Approach to Grinds:

Learning languages is often seen as something you can or cannot do. I wholeheartedly disagree with this. I think each student is capable of improving and perfecting their language skills. Enjoying the language learning experience is a big part of this and something I try to bring into each of my classes.

I usually take a couple of weeks to get to know the student's level and way of seeing language and I make a plan from there based on each student's individual goals.

I think it is always important to remember that languages are not just school subjects - they are living things that open up new countries, cultures, cinema, cuisine etc. to us!
