Masters and Bachelor degree in math from University of Massachusetts,

During the pandemic I am tutoring using Zoom. I use graphing software to display graphs as well as making use of the equation editor within Word to do problems. The student and I go through my notes on line, update them when necessary and at the end the student receives an email with all of the created notes to review when the sessions is over. This includes solutions to mock exams.

I feel that my greatest strength is my total enjoyment of the more difficult problems.

Tutoring Experience:

I have prepared students fro Leaving Cert both for past 3 years. (Upper level is a specialty.) I am certified to teach High School math in Massachusetts. Algebra, geometry, probability and statistics, trigonometry.

I have taught calculus to engineers, probability and statistics to computer science students at university level.

Approach to Grinds:

I arrived in Galway from USA lin July 2018. I have 9 years of tutoring experience in US in addition to teaching.

Since arriving I have prepared students for both higher and ordinary level Leaving Cert. I go over old exams and teach how to do the problem and strategies to get an optimum score.

I DO REQUIRE THAT THE STUDENT BE WILLING TO DO WEEKLY HOMEWORK. This is really the only way to benefit from remote learning.

I have also tutored Irish university students in calculus, linear algebra, geometry, complex variables and statistics.

Also I have prepared students for GMAT, GRE, and SAT II

From John (5/5): (Senior Cycle Maths) My son is currently awaiting his Leaving Cert results and the college options they bring him. His CAO first choice is Engineering and this is only possible thanks to Maureen's excellent tuition and help.
At the start of his final year, my son was struggling with Honours Math and had looking at dropping to Ordinary level. His class results at this time was supporting this direction. As a quiet person he struggled to ask questions in class and so was missing out on learning the foundations and structures of Math.
When we engaged Maureen’s help for online, remote tutoring, it was a move of last resort and desperation. We were unsure of how it would work or if it would be effective. It was amazing how quickly we observed the positive results, not only in class test results but also my son’s confidence in studying the subject. As the year progressed he even sought extra sessions with Maureen (offering to pay for them from his own savings).
Ultimately he sat Honours Math for his Leaving Cert. His results are not yet known but I know my son went into that paper less stressed and more prepared than I believed possible only a year ago. I know he now possesses a comprehension of foundations and workings of Math that are more complete and that will assist him going forward into his future studies and career.
Maureen is a wonderful teacher, supportive of her students and very generous with her time. She regularly went way over the session time with my son to complete the learning opportunity – and the funny thing is, he never complained of this as he valued so much the time spent learning with her.

From Danny (5/5): (University Maths) She's a very good maths tutor. I've had classes with her for a year and a half. Her classes are easygoing yet engaging and she's open to any questions. I've understood my maths classes a little better now compared to back then. Online schooling was actually alright. It allows some flexibility to a certain extent when it comes to scheduling times. The class notes given to me were helpful and easy to read. I will say that it's best to prepare topics and work on problems beforehand (to send by email), as putting topics on the spot might take some time for her to create the notes. I would really recommend her for anyone else struggling with maths.

I went from failing and not liking math to getting high grades and actually enjoying the subject. Maureen makes higher level math manageable and interesting. Maureen sends me her clear, typed out, helpful notes from the online sessions. This allows me to store and find notes efficiently when revising for tests. She also uses a modern approach to learning by using apps that illustrate graphs in a straightforward way. I would highly recommend Maureen!
