Personal Description:
Retired secondary school teacher from the South Kilkenny area, available to tutor a variety of subjects. This includes English and French at Primary, Junior Certificate and Leaving Certificate levels. Also available to teach English as a second language or to adults with literacy difficulties. I have gained a lot of experience as a general resource teacher and particularly enjoy working with and helping students experiencing learning difficulties. I am available to tutor from my own home near Mullinavat village or I am happy to drive to the student's home. Feel free to contact me with any queries.
Tutoring Experience:
I have gained over thirty-five years experience teaching at this level. Qualified from University College Dublin with a degree in English and French. Then completed a Post Graduate Masters Degree in Remedial Education and Special Needs in 2001. I have corrected English state examination papers and supervised the Leaving and Junior Certificate Examinations for many years. I am very experienced working in the area of resource teaching particularly with students experiencing dyslexia and other learning difficulties and am currently undertaking a CABA course as I have had continuous interest in the field of Autism and hope to receive my accreditation this Autumn.
Approach to Grinds:
I am comfortable tutoring students of all levels. I have a well planned and consistent approach to my tutoring. Having taught at second level for over thirty-five years I am very familiar with the syllabus, course content and marking scheme of both the English and French state examinations.
For students studying French I aim to help the student to build a wide and rich French vocabulary while also developing examination standard listening and writing skills which will all lead to a successful oral, aural and written examination.
For students studying English I aim to instill a thorough knowledge of the single and comparative texts necessary for both paper one and paper two of the leaving certificate examination. For the junior certificate students my target is to focus on the development of personal writing skills as well as improving the students level of literacy.
For students experiencing learning difficulties I aim to help the student by finding out the problems preventing the student from developing their education and working with the student to overcome these difficulties. For each student I will be creating an individual education programme specific to their personal needs.
