I am a fully qualified Primary and Secondary School Teacher. I am a native Irish speaker and I enjoy teaching students how to converse fluently 'as Gaeilge' and to prepare them for exams at all levels from primary to third level. My main goal is to instil a love of our native language in all my students.

I taught for several years in Coláiste Lurgan, Indreabhán, Co. na Gaillimhe where I took honours classes up to Leaving Certificate level. During the summer, I work with Conradh na Gaeilge where I teach Irish summer camps across Connaught.

Approach to Grinds:

Since graduating from Ollscoil na hÉireann Má Nuad in 2008, I have given private home tuition to both primary and secondary level students (Irish up to Junior Cert Honors level/ Leaving Certificate Oral Irish higher level). I take a very practical and hands on approach. Since March 2020, I have taught grinds remotely via Skype/Zoom, this has proved an extremely practical way of teaching the language without compromising on the student learning experience. Resources are emaiIed prior to each lesson, additional resources are displayed on screen, making sure the student is prepared and organized with resources to hand for each class.

From Marian (5/5): (Junior Cycle Gaelic) Deirdre has been helping my son with his Irish - he's in Junior Cert year. She is very enthusiastic and her love of the language is infectious. That said, she tailors her approach to the ability of the student. My son is becoming more confident in Irish, as a result of his sessions with Deirdre and he has only had a handful so far. Deirdre speaks Irish as much as possible, but clarifies in English if necessary - she is very intuitive that way.

Deirdre is very friendly and engaging and also very steady and calm in her teaching methods, which suits my son a lot as he has a tendency to fret. She really puts him at ease.

It's clear that she is passionate about teaching and genuinely loves to teach young people. She is punctual and generous with the time allocation.
