Personal Description:
I am a primary teacher with a maths degree.
While I give primary school maths grinds, I specialize in junior cert (all levels) and ordinary level leaving cert maths grinds. I have given leaving cert higher level grinds, but while I am studying myself, this takes too much of my time so choose not to take on these pupils this year.
I graduated from Mary Immaculate College with a B. Ed degree and B.A degree in Mathematics in 2013 (both honours) and completed a Masters of Education with Trinity College in 2016 and a Masters in Educational Leadership and Management in 2022.
I have a passion for teaching primary school children and have a fun and active approach to learning.
My primary teaching job really helps with giving secondary school maths grinds as I am able to access every pupils level of understanding and able to bring them on.
Tutoring Experience:
Primary School:
I am currently teaching 5th and 6th class in a permanent position. I'm vice principal in the big primary school that I'm in in county Kildare. I've taught infants, 1st, 4th, 5th and 6th class. I've taken pupils from all levels of primary school for grinds over the last 6 years.
Secondary School Maths:
I have given grinds to over thirty junior and leaving cert maths pupils in the past four years - higher, ordinary and foundation leveled students. I'm currently not taking leaving cert higher level, but all others.
Piano Lessons:
I am a very skilled piano player who has completed 8 grades with the Royal Irish Academy of Music. I currently perform for weddings and funerals with a talented singer friend of mine. I have been giving piano lessons for the last six years to pupils of all ages.
Special Needs:
I have completed July Provision tuition with a child with profound autism in July 2014. I have travelled to London to get experience with children with severe physical disabilities. I have previously tutored a child who missed a lot of days in school due to a severe illness and adapted my lessons to suit such a fragile mentality to school in his sickness. Fortunately, this child is doing very well now.
Extras:
I’ve taught English in an Italian summer camp for two years running and Science in a summer camp in NUIG. I’ve set up a summer camp in our own school in Rathangan and ran it to perfection. I have ran talent shows and given free music lessons for our school band in the last few years.
Approach to Grinds:
Primary School Grinds:
I take on a very active approach to teaching primary school children. This is based on the National Primary School Curriculum which emphasises child-centred, active learning. I have become skilful at implementing an active approach since I started studying for the Masters in Education in September 2014. I listen to parents’ concerns and tackle areas of difficulty primarily. For example, if the child struggles with literacy, I address this difficulty primarily in all of the different lesson activities – for example, comprehension, blending or segmentation of words or phonemes, fluency development… Likewise, I pinpoint areas of difficulty in maths and find ways to address these as my main focus to every lesson. Discount available for two days a week.
Secondary School Maths:
Very thorough with maths grinds, explaining in detail where necessary and moving directly to areas of difficulty. Uses very good explanations and diagrams to grasp understanding of foundations. I spend a lot of time creating and gathering the best quality of notes in my ability.
Piano Lessons:
Very friendly and fun manner towards learning to play the piano and in the beginning grades. I take a more serious approach with the older pupils interested in achieving high marks. I find music (in non-examination lessons) that would interest the individual pupil so that they are learning music they enjoy!

I believe this rating left by Sheila was a rating for your website, and not me as a tutor because I hadn’t started the grinds with her son at the date at which it was left (14th Sept) and I remember she was finding the website a bit tricky to work and to message me.
Maybe could you check this as it effects my overall rating on the website?
Thanks in advance,
Claire
