Personal Description:

Hi!

My name is Patrick and I am currently studying a Bachelor of Biomedicine as a Chancellor's Scholar at the University of Melbourne. I am also studying Latin at university. I graduated in 2017 with an ATAR of 99.90, and I am available as a Latin tutor for all levels from year 7-12. I have been tutoring Latin for 3 years now, and have helped several students with their school exams and their improvement with the language. Sample student results are:

Student 1 (Camberwell Grammar School): Scaled 48/50 (VCE); 99.00 ATAR (2019)
Student 2 (Firbank Grammar School): Raw 41/50 (VCE), Scaled 53/50 (VCE) (2020)
Student 3 (school undisclosed): ranked 2 internally
Student 4 (school undisclosed): dux
Student 5 (school undisclosed): dux

Having succeeded in Latin and year 12, for me personally success not only comes from hard work but also completely understanding the foundations of the Latin language. My goal with all my students to ensure that they learn the foundations before extending them to truly understand and appreciate the language - not just for the purpose of examinations. I have been exposed to many authors and texts in Latin including Sallust, Virgil, Cicero, Horace, Livy, Tacitus and many more. Many schools may choose to study obscure texts and authors for SACs, but in my experience so far I have been able to accomodate to everyone. In particular, I have become very familiar with SACs at Camberwell Grammar School. I also have some experience with university level Latin for those who wish to extend themselves.

Tuition Experience:

I have been tutoring privately for three years, and I have worked as a teacher at a maths coaching college.

Tutoring Approach:

For me, doing well in year 12 came from not only hard work, but also a very solid understanding of the foundations of a subject. On top of that, I tried to understand concepts from multiple angles, even going beyond the syllabus in extension programs, before applying it through rigorous practice. If you just want help with your subjects, I can do that. But if you really want to push yourself or set yourself up to do so in the future, then I would be very keen to help you.
