Information about Mick - Belrose tutor

Personal Description:

I am 55 years old and am the Head Teacher of Mathematics at a NSW Secondary School.
I previously worked in the Finance Sector for many years.
My youngest child completed her HSC in 2018 and my wife (who is also a teacher) and I have decided to start to step back from full-time teaching.
We want to do some travelling but still have a great passion for teaching and think that online tutoring is appropriate for us.
I am a very fit and active person who enjoys sport.

Tuition Experience:

I have been teaching Maths for 14 years.
I have taught all levels of Secondary Maths including Advanced, Extension 1 & Extension 2.
I have done a lot of one to one tutoring as a free service at my school.
I have considerable experience at accelerating students.
I have considerable experience at remediation for struggling students.

Tutoring Approach:

First look at the goal of the student.
Secondly assess where that student is in regard to that goal.
Thirdly apply any remediation strategies that are appropriate.
Finally commence the appropriate pattern of study.
A common problem for students who are struggling at maths is gaps in their foundation skills. This must be addressed before a student will start to see the fluent and creative side of their mathematical ability develop.
Automaticity in basic skills will compound into the most wonderful intuitive leaps of logic.
My ability to breakdown concepts into manageable pieces is also a strength.
Finally my extensive experience and curriculum knowledge allows me to know exactly what are the key concepts in any topic to ensure maximum learning occurs and no time is wasted on material irrelevant to the goals of the student.
