Personal Description:

Originally from the UK, I am now working as Head of Mathematics in Yeppoon. I enjoy gardening, sport (in particular cricket and soccer), tapestry work, walking, recreational problem solving and travelling.

Tuition Experience:

I have over 20 years of teaching experience and have taught Mathematics and Further Mathematics for over 15 years. I have prepared groups of students for entry to both Cambridge and Oxford University. I am currently teaching Years 7 - 10 Mathematics and General Maths to Year 11 & 12 as well as Specialist Maths to Y11 & 12 in a local school in Yeppoon.

I have also specialised in tutoring students revision courses both 1 to 1 and small groups, with a view to preparing students for upcoming examinations. I have a great deal of assessment experience, marking examinations at grade 11 and 12.

Tutoring Approach:

The reason that I tutor is because I really enjoy helping students to improve their mathematical skills and it gives me great pleasure to see the difference my tutoring can make. Mathematics still fascinates me and I enjoy guiding students in solving problems.

Tuition is about gaining the confidence of the student and developing a positive and trusting relationship between tutor and student. This is achieved by a mixture of things but essentially by tuning in to how the student thinks about their mathematics as well as demonstrating strong subject knowledge and having a variety of approaches to a situation in order to discover which approach best fits the student's way of thinking.
