Personal Description:

I am a parent of 2 who have both completed university and run their own businesses. I have 3 grandchildren aged 4 to 8. I live in a Victorian regional city and have worked as an industrial chemist in Melbourne before becoming a teacher.

Tuition Experience:

I have 25 years teaching experience, in Victorian private and public schools teaching maths, science and chemistry. In that time I have developed a computer facility in a government school, a science facility in a private school as Head of Science and worked in school homework clubs.

I have taught mathematics through Covid lockdowns using MS Teams with screen sharing where students found this very successful, often better than classroom teaching.

Tutoring Approach:

I have developed a mentoring approach during my time as a parent and a teacher. I get to know a student with their personal approach to mathematics, thinking style, strengths and weaknesses. I then set up an appropriate program for each student. I can strengthen intuitive ways of thinking, and correct methods that are not helpful. I work with a student as we explore and develop ways of thinking mathematically, understanding and mastering the challenges at hand.

I tutor online through MS Teams using Cambridge Mathematics. When a student registers they receive access to the whole year of mathematics resources. These resources include worked examples, solutions, an online working space that can be uploaded to me, student self assessment about how they are going, answers to all questions so students can monitor their progress, face to face MS Teams meetings in every tuition session, demonstrations of mathematical concepts and experiments, online calculators and graphing features, competitions with other students if desired, differentiated mathematics program applicable to each student, reports to parents and students of student progress in each exercise, pre-tests and post-tests to measure student growth in understanding, problem solving, opportunity to accelera**Contact Detail Removed**arning and to fill in learning gaps from previous years.

With remote teaching through Covid many students have found a growth in Mathematics much more than normal classroom teaching. This covers the personal face to face approach, personal tuition and some of the best mathematics teaching resources available, and often much better than is possible in a school classroom.
