Personal Description:

My name is Jacob and I have been been learning Mandarin for over 10 years. I first studied Mandarin Chinese at the Australian National University and subsequently lived in China for 4 years. I have learned a lot from this invaluable experience and I actively look to impart relevant and practical cultural experience into my lessons.

Tuition Experience:

I have over 4 years of language teaching experience. I taught English in Nanjing, China for 3 years at an award winning language training centre. In Nanjing I refined my knowledge of language acquisition and effective teaching methodologies and became an effective language teacher. Since returning to Australia in 2019 I have been teaching Mandarin Chinese in 1-to-1 sessions.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a full coursework for learning Mandarin Chinese and employ modern technologies for effective language acquisition.

I focus on all of the 4 skills of language learning (reading, writing, listening and speaking) and emphasise correct pronunciation and tones.

I heavily encourage the use of technology to automate the acquisition of vocabulary and use a progressive approach which builds on prior knowledge.

Extensive review questions ensure that students have every opportunity to become familiar and proficient with grammar points.

Extended dialogues and texts are used to show how each element of the language is used in the context of natural speech.

Periodic testing to check student progress is available if desired.
