Information about Darren - Elwood tutor

Personal Description:

I am a positive, friendly and hard-working person from a small coastal town in NSW. I grew up surrounded by the beach and love surfing and diving. I have played sport all my life and still enjoy a kick around of the soccer ball, play a bit of touch rugby league, do some bouldering, go the gym and do a bit of running. I love being outside and going on adventures and you can find me on most weekends out and about or catching up with friends.

Tuition Experience:

I started my teaching career in South Korea where I taught English as Second Language (ESL) from 2012-2014.
I completed my Graduate Diploma of Teaching at Griffith University in 2015 while teaching ESL on the Gold Coast.
From 2016-2018 I lived and taught in Oxford, UK. Focusing on Business Managment. I taught a range of students from Year 9 to Year 13. However, my focus has always been on older students going into university. During this time, I taught at one of the top public schools in the Oxford area.
In between Oxford and Manchester, I spent a month living and working in Cambodia volunteering at a K-6 school. Here I taught English, supported in other subjects where I could and implemented pedagogy techniques.
2019-2022 I lived in Manchester and taught at Loreto Sixth Form College, which is one of the biggest and best public colleges in all of the UK. Again, I focused on Business Managment and taught ages 16-18 years (Year 12 and 13).
2023 - current. I moved back to Australia and to a new city in Melbourne, where I am currently teaching VCE Business Management and IB Economics. I am currently at a top performing high school in Kew.

Tutoring Approach:

Having taught in Australia, South Korea, Cambodia and the UK, I have been able to develop a range of pedagogy techniques which engage students and trigger their strengths. I provide unique learning experiences, I positively challenge students, fostering and strengthening their resilience in the classroom.
My enthusiasm and positive energy has helped build trust between my students and myself, motivating and inspiring them to always try their best. I create a safe and supportive learning environment for students, allowing them to gain the confidence and skills needed for a successful future.
