Personal Description:
ACCEPTING NEW STUDENTS FOR 2023 || 99.95 PERFECT ATAR || Tutor for 8+ years || Doctor of Medicine || Chancellors' Scholar || Methodist Ladies' College
Hello! I'm Cathy. I graduated from Methodist Ladies' College as dux of 2016 with a perfect ATAR of 99.95 through the International Baccalaureate Diploma program. I am currently studying at University of Melbourne: Doctor of Medicine (MD). I graduated with Bachelor of Biomedicine Chancellors' Scholar (with H1 honours) at University of Melbourne (2017-2019), majoring in Neuroscience.
The IB program is so great in the way that it allows students to develop attributes and life-long skills that go well beyond simply academics. I believe that my success in IB thrives from constant co-curricular involvement, forcing me to strategically manage my time and study efficiently. I wish to pass on my knowledge and expertise to more students so that they too can succeed and achieve their goals.
Tuition Experience:
I have tutored over thirty Year 11/12 IB students throughout the past three years, with many achieving a 7. I have tutoring experience in the following subjects: HL/SL Chemistry, HL/SL Biology, HL/SL Economics, SL Maths and SL English Literature.
I have also helped students in younger years with either preparing for IB or laying down foundations for more advanced study in English, Maths and Science.
I provide comprehensive notes as well as sample IAs which scored very highly. My tutoring style allows for either one-on-one or group sessions (up to 3 students).
Tutoring Approach:
For me, the key to IB is strictly following the syllabus points and understanding every concept from the foundations.
As a former IB student, I truly understand the challenges this program poses for students. I believe that as a tutor, I can pinpoint the key aspects that students need to grasp and minimise their workload. I truly think that studying should not be a mechanical bore, rather an engaging and active process.
My tutoring focuses on what the student wants to work on, with each session tailored to suit individual needs. I will get to know each student personally as I believe productivity stems from communication and understanding. The smile from a student after finally nailing a difficult question is what gives me, the tutor, such great joy.
I am no genius, but I am motivated and hard working. I believe that with enough determination and effort, there is no such thing as "not smart enough".
I am happy to tutor either in CBD area, Melbourne Uni or near Kew East (inner East suburbs flexible).
*update: given the current circumstances regarding COVID-19, online tutoring works very well! Contact me for more details :)
