Information About Shauna - Athenry tutor

Personal Description:

My name is Shauna and I am currently studying a masters in Precision Medicine in UCD. I have graduated from University of Limerick with a Bachelor of Science in Bioscience where I received a honours degree in 2021. This was a 4 year course where I learned all about molecular biology, cell biology, immunology, drug discovery and biological techniques. In my masters I am focusing on genomics, proteomics along with high throughput technologies in the industry. I am currently doing a research project on kidney failure in diabetic patients. I have loved studying biology from my 1st year in secondary school and it's a dream to be able do it in college along with helping other students excel in their studies! Over my years in third level education, I have perfected all the skills necessary to give high quality grinds and help improve grades and advise on study techniques.

Tutoring Experience:

I have a TEFL certificate which allowed me to travel and teach English as a foreign language. I has classes of up to 25 children between the ages of 8 - 13 where I gave classes on human biology along with educating them on women in science. We did some practicals incorporating the nature along with the scientific method to structure experiments. This was all done while helping them improve on their English speaking swell as grammar and senate structure.

Approach to Grinds:

My approach to grinds includes having an introductory session (1:1) where we can discuss the learning approaches most suitable to the student. This will be hugely beneficial as it will make learning much easier. Along with this I would ask for any particulate topics where they struggle with or would like more focus on. This will help when making session plans. I will focus on one main topic per session with time at the end of the session for questions from the student and also to open a discussion about their performance. For each topic I will provide questions, diagram outlines and notes as appropriate. The student will be involved in planning the session to better suit their needs.
