Personal Description:

My name is Sarah and I have recently qualified secondary school teacher with a Bachelor’s in Education in both Gaeilge and German. I am a native Irish speaker coming from a Gaeltacht area and I have also completed an Erasmus year in Germany.

Tutoring Experience:

I have completed three years of school placement while also acting as a substitute teacher for both Gaeilge and German. This experience has equipped me with in depth knowledge of both the Junior and Senior cycle curriculum for Gaeilge and German. I have experience in marking oral exams in both languages also

Approach to Grinds:

My approach to teaching both Gaeilge and German is deeply rooted in fostering comprehensive language acquisition and cultural understanding. Embracing a communicative approach, I prioritise the cultivation of all five language skills—listening, speaking, reading, writing, and cultural awareness—in every lesson, ensuring a holistic learning experience. As well as this, I tailor my teaching methods to accommodate various learning styles, employing scaffolding techniques, visual aids, and oral instruction to cater to individual needs and preferences. I am much of the belief that subjects should be taught around holistic learning, promoting cultural learning and to instil a love for the language. I believe that the goal of as a teacher is to promote and develop my students character. I encourage my students to think critically by giving them the opportunity to work collaboratively and promote problem solving activities. I also provide materials and sample answers for students to help them prepare for their exams.
