Information About Muireann - Birr tutor

Personal Description:

I am a friendly and approachable person, and I am passionate about my profession as a biologist and in science education. I have gained a solid background in the sciences (biology, chemistry, and physics) from school through to University, achieving high grades throughout my education. I completed Junior Certificate Science, receiving a high A grade. This score led me to qualify and be selected to participate in the Irish Junior Science Olympiad (IrJSO) 2010, and later to the be recalled to part-take in the Irish European Union Science Olympiad. I completed the three sciences with honours scores at 1st year University level, and continued to study Biology for a further 8 years to complete my Bachelor's degree, Master's degree, and Doctorate. Apart from science, I enjoy playing music and singing, and I like keeping fit by running and rowing.

Tutoring Experience:

My teaching experience has been diverse. I have been involved in designing educational programmes about general science and biology for the general public, and I have also taught and supervised 27 medical students to date as part of my doctoral training.

Approach to Grinds:

When starting tuition, I work with individuals to devise a learning plan with specific short-, medium-, and long-term goals tailored to the individual's needs. This can be focused on specific topics or in preparation for examinations, depending on the relevant timeframe. I can also critically mark answers to examination questions, and provide feedback on how to improve scores. I teach subjects in an enthusiastic and engaging way, and am always open to questions and discussion sessions.
