Information About Matthew - Dublin tutor
This is how 2 referees rated Matthew:
Dia duit! My name is Matthew and I am a college student studying European Studies in Trinity College Dublin. I am enthusiastic, positive and a hard worker and love engaging with students about all things Irish! My passions include kayaking, reading, cycling, socializing and languages (Irish, French, Spanish). I am taking part in an Irish-language accommodation scheme this year so bíonn an Ghaeilge á labhairt agam gach lá/ I speak Irish every day! I firmly believe that Irish can be taught in a fun and engaging manner which stimulates the student to want to speak it more. Although I studied Irish grammar in school I came to be fluent in Irish through 5 summers in Gaeltacht Chonamara. The ability to confidently converse in our national language has opened so many doors for me and it can also be the case for you! Tá súil agam cloisteáil uaibh agus go n-éirí libh go léir! :)
I received an A in Junior Cert Irish and full marks in Higher level Irish for the Leaving Cert. This was through hard work and practice with friends, family and online resources. I have experience working in a Gaelscoil (Gaelscoil Bhaile Brigín) and therefore am competent in working with younger students/tutees (5-12). I worked in Gaeltacht Leitir Móir (Gaillimh) which involved encouraging and supporting young students (13-15) to value and love their native tongue. I am familiar with the different dialects of Irish and Standard Irish and welcome any preference in classes.
Approach to Grinds:
In order to establish what level of Irish a student has I firstly have a basic conversation with them, similar to an Oral Assessment. I then work through some written Irish with them to assess their capacity to read. Together we would work on our goals over a period of time. If the student would like to solely work on their Gaeilge labhartha / spoken Irish that is perfectly fine. I ideally like to teach predominantly through Irish however this is not always the case and that's perfectly fine also! I am always up for suggestions from the student as to how they gain most from working with me and I always try to have a bit of craic along the way!
